The Extraordinary Exit: How to Sell Your Business for Maximum Value, Protect Your Legacy, and Walk Away with No Regrets

Andy Harris and Jonathan Sherrill had spent their careers on opposite sides of the same table. Cheval Press helped them put that expertise into a book.

Andy Harris and Jonathan Sherrill wanted to do more than write a book—they wanted to build visibility, cement their thought leadership in a competitive space, and give Jonathan a launchpad for a new coaching business. Cheval Press helped them accomplish all three. The challenges: neither author came in with a substantial existing platform, and coordinating two distinct voices and two sets of approvals at every stage of the process required patience, precision, and a steady hand.

    Our Solution

    Our Solution

Andy and Jonathan came to us with something most co-authors don't have: two sides of the same story. Andy has spent his career as a sell-side advisor at a leading advisory firm, guiding business owners through one of the most consequential decisions of their lives. Jonathan was one of those business owners—Andy's client—who navigated a successful exit firsthand and came out the other side with hard-won perspective he wanted to share.

Together, they had a uniquely compelling story to tell. Our job was to help them tell it as one unified voice rather than two competing ones. That meant working closely with both authors at every stage, from helping them shape the narrative to refining the manuscript to shepherding the book through publishing, audiobook production, and a full marketing campaign. Two authors means twice the collaboration, twice the approvals, and twice the care required to get it right.

    Solution Visual

    Plot twists

Every path to publishing has its challenges. Here's what they were up against.

    Two authors, one voice.

Coordinating two distinct voices and two sets of approvals at every stage of the process required a level of care and precision that single-author projects simply don't demand. Getting both authors aligned, at every turn, was part of the work.

    Building from a limited platform.

Neither Andy nor Jonathan came in with a large existing audience. The book had to do real work—establishing credibility, generating visibility, and opening doors in a space where thought leadership is hard-earned.

    A high-stakes subject.

Selling a business is one of the most consequential decisions a person can make. The book had to handle that weight responsibly—giving readers genuinely useful, trustworthy guidance without oversimplifying a deeply complex process.

    The resolution

The Extraordinary Exit made its mark.

    A prestigious win.

The book earned something rare and impressive: a Gold Medal from the Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY) in the Best Adult Non-Fiction Informational eBook category. The IPPYs are among the most respected awards in independent publishing, and a gold medal is a genuine distinction in a crowded field.

    Thought leadership established.

The book gave both authors a credible, professional platform they didn't have before. For Jonathan, it was the foundation for something bigger—he went on to launch Waypoint, his coaching business for business owners navigating exits, with the book as a cornerstone of his authority.

    A relationship that continues.

The work Andy and Jonathan experienced was strong enough that Jonathan has since sent referrals to Cheval Press directly—telling one prospective client: "[Cheval Press] was fantastic to work with and that Andy and I were very pleased with [their] work on The Extraordinary Exit." That kind of endorsement says more than any award.
